Chinese curtain fabrics boost the revival of Baghdad's traditional home textile market in Iraq

The Daniel Market is Baghdad's oldest market for curtains and home textiles. While most traditional markets have been impacted by modern mass-produced goods, the Daniel Market has regained vitality relying on textile raw materials imported from China.
Most vendors in the market run small businesses with integrated workshops and retail stores. The sound of sewing machines echoes through the alleys every morning. Curtains, bed covers, tablecloths and other home textiles processed here are widely used in Iraqi households.
Local tailor Abu Mutadha makes a living with a single sewing machine. He commented that Chinese curtain fabrics are durable, diverse in patterns and cost-effective, laying a solid foundation for local small workshops. Arab consumers have a custom of frequently replacing window curtains, and Chinese supplies have revitalized the whole local home textile sector when other old markets are declining.
Long-time trader Abu Ahmed added that Chinese fabrics feature elegant designs. Local high-end consumers often visit the historic market, and many shops have launched value-added services including on-site measurement and home installation of curtains.
